Friday, August 3, 2012 to Sunday, August 5, 2012
Riondel Days, which has taken place on the August long weekend for more than 35 years, is getting a facelift.
The focus has shifted from the baseball tournament to activities in which the whole family can participate. There will be exhibition baseball, but this year all ages can sign up for the Cornhole (beanbag) Tournament , 3 on 3 Basketball, Bocce, or the old fashioned family races like 3-legged or egg-on-a-spoon events.
If independent and leisurely activity is more your style, the Scavenger Hunt and the Squawfish Derby will run all weekend, and the Heart Healthy Walk (on lovely route beside the lake) can all be enjoyed at your own pace.
For more sedentary pursuits, there’s bingo on Friday, the book sale and art show on Saturday and Sunday. The concession and beer garden will be operating; everybody likes to eat. The pasta dinner and silent auction with live music will be the highlight of Saturday evening, with proceeds going toward replacing the Community Centre roof.
Riondel Days would not be Riondel Days without the Cake Walk on Sunday. And the weekend will wrap up with live music again at the family dance on Sunday night – outdoors if the weather permits.
It all takes place August 3 to Aug. 5 in and around the Riondel Regional Park, which has also undergone a facelift this year. There will be lots of prizes, lots of fun, and new experiences for everyone. And you are invited to come and enjoy.
