Registration is now underway for the West Kootenay Toy Run Association's 25th annual Toy Run. Registration is $10 or a new unwrapped toy – toys are preferred. First held in 1988 with 15 local riders, the Toy Run gets over 500 participants, and raises more than $25,000 annually for local food banks, women’s shelters, the Salvation Army, various family support organizations, and high school bursaries, as well as hundreds of toys that are donated to the local Salvation Army organizations for their Christmas hampers. The 25th annual West Kootenay Toy Run will be held on Sunday, Sept. 9. The ride starts at the Castlegar Rec Complex at 8 a.m. with a pancake breakfast, At 10 a.m., Santa will lead the riders through downtown Castlegar, and then to Nelson, to pick up toys at Hipperson’s Hardware, to the Salmo Fire Hall for lunch, and then to Trail in front of Ferraro Foods from Wolf’s Den Tattoos. The Toy Run arrives back at the Castlegar Rec Complex at 3 p.m. for a dinner by the Castlegar Special Olympics, music by Titus Kanby, plus great vendors and door prizes, and the draw at 6 p.m. for the raffle prize of a brand new Harley Davidson Blackline bike.
